Step by Step guide to adding ChatGPT AI on your Android Home Screen
OpenAI’s ChatGPT app has introduced a versatile widget, now accessible on multiple platforms, including IoS & Android. Seamlessly add ChatGPT to your device’s home screen and effortlessly input prompts via images, text, voice, or conversational queries. Let us walk you through the steps to integrate and make the most of this convenient feature.

Downloading ChatGPT
Step 1: Let’s start by finding ‘Play Store’ (on your phone, this comes as standard in the vast majority of Android devices

Step 2: Once located, type in ‘ChatGPT’ and search

Step 3: Ensure you download the correct app, there are a number of different AI Apps trying to imitate ChatGPT by closely resembling the Open.AI logo, however, you’ll notice the true ChatGPT app is created by ‘OpenAI’, this is the correct download – alternatively click here
If you already have the Open.AI app, update the ChatGPT app to version 1.2024.052 or later (This version introduced the widget feature)

Step 4: If you haven’t already created a ChatGPT ID, now is the time to do so. You’re given the options of
- Continue with Google
- Continue with Apple
- Sign up with email
Choose your preferred option, follow the simple instructions then create a username and password

Step 5: Time to launch the ChatGPT app, let’s ensure everything is working as it should do, use the credentials you’ve just chosen, sign in and you should see the following

Step 6: Unlock your device, then press and hold an empty space on your Home screen, a menu will then appear

Step 7: Within the menu you’ll notice an option for things such as wallpaper, themes and settings, however, ‘Widgets‘ is what you require, select this option

Step 8: Once you’ve selected ‘Widgets’ a search bar will appear, tap on the search bar and type in “ChatGPT”

Step 9: Give the ChatGPT widget a long press, then slide it to wherever you fancy on your Home screen

Step 10: If you’ve followed the ChatGPT app walkthrough then you should now have the ChatGPT widget in your chosen location, tap anywhere on the widget to launch ChatGPT app.
Using the Widget:
- There’s currently only one widget size available, a 4×2 option.
- Tapping on the message field lets you type your query directly into the widget.
- The camera and image icons allow image prompts, but require a ChatGPT Plus subscription.
- The microphone icon lets you enter prompts with your voice.
- The headphone icon activates conversation mode (availability might depend on your device).
