Both Google Gemini and ChatGPT have made headlines for their versatility in content creation, but there are differences between the two.
In both cases, we are faced with AI systems that generate texts to respond to user queries thanks to machine learning models. However, neither of them is yet perfect, and we have often seen responses containing incorrect information, which still require the intervention of a human operator to verify and possibly correct the result. Looks like copywriters aren’t going away just yet after all!
What is Google Gemini and what is it for?
Google Gemini is not just an AI chatbot powered by LaMDA (later upgraded to PaLM 2, Pathways Language Model) that can provide answers to questions in a very short time, but a real alternative to searching on Google to obtain information. Bard essentially draws on real-world information through Google Search and responds consistently with the search results.
Google Gemini draws on deep neural networks to generate different types of content: articles, reviews, product and service descriptions, and much more.
We have seen that ChatGPT has seen great success with the public and that it can be used for productive SEO copywriting. Unlike the OpenAI model, however, Gemini draws on the Google ecosystem and therefore can implement an even broader pool of information. Furthermore, it is not bound to the data pre-2023, given that it can rely on the information present in Big G in real time.
As Search Engine Journal suggests, Gemini is an interactive method for exploring topics and enticing users to gather knowledge.
The challenge for the developers was to develop a model that was able to offer correct answers, also about those topics whose information is influenced by a given temporal scope since they refer to constantly changing entities. To solve this need, Gemini inherits from LaMDA a search results control feature, combining the immense amount of human knowledge with the creativity of language models, to draw information from the web and provide high-quality answers.
Google Gemini is a tool that can speed up the process of creating content for your blog. However, we must consider that this tool is currently in beta and that it is not designed to replace conventional SEO techniques. Rather, it constitutes a means of receiving ideas and information in an instant and with little effort (which we must however verify that they are correct
Google Gemini can help us identify keywords relevant to the chosen topics. In particular, we can target those keywords not associated at first sight with the starting themes, to obtain different results from those we can obtain from actual SEO tools such as Semrush. But its functions don’t end there. Like many other chatbots in circulation, it is capable of carrying out calculations, creating computer code, and commenting on it. Furthermore, additional functions are being released, such as the possibility of listening to the answers rather than just reading them, choosing the style in which to produce the content, and the possibility of uploading images to integrate the requests.
Google Gemini is a real alternative tool to conventional search that allows you to extrapolate countless types of content from web sources: summaries of texts, biographies of famous people, reviews, product lists, practically any kind of pre-existing text processing that may come to mind.
According to Google, the PaLM 2 model can understand reasoning, logic, and mathematical processes better than previous ones, as well as faster. This brings more detailed answers than the usual searches for information via the Google bar.
Gemini was created as an alternative, or rather complement, to the classic search engine function. Google provides a vast array of content, from websites to images, podcasts to videos, to respond to user searches. Bard, on the other hand, is more similar to a voice assistant like Siri or Alexa which provides immediate responses to specific information needs.
It can also provide practical support for various tasks such as booking hotels, retrieving existing reservations, etc.
Gemini is based on a more informal conversational tone than the keywords typed into the search engine, giving the impression almost of a human operator available to answer various questions.
What is ChatGPT and what is it for?
ChatGPT, an AI chatbot crafted by OpenAI, stands as a pre-trained generative language model, having undergone extensive training on vast datasets of text and code. Though still in development, it has already demonstrated proficiency across a wide array of tasks.
ChatGPT is particularly versatile and can be used to create content useful for generating other media such as:
- HTML code for website layouts
- Prompt to generate images with Midjourney
- Translations from one language to another
- Spreadsheet formulas
- Data tables
ChatGPT, like its colleague, can be used to create SEO-relevant content such as:
- Ideas for the editorial plan
- Blog articles
- Title and Descriptions for product sheets
- Inviting CTAs
- Posts for social networks
- Translations
- Jokes
and many others.
ChatGPT and Google Gemini similarities and differences
In both cases, we are faced with conversational chatbots designed to provide answers to user requests almost instantly.
However, there are several differences between the two tools.
The databases of the two services
ChatGPT does not draw information from the internet but from an OpenAI database updated in January 2022 for the v3.5 model: this means that its responses to requests for information relating to the period from January 2022 onwards may not be correct. It also cannot produce images or other types of multimedia content.
Google Gemini, thanks to the enormous amount of updated data coming from the Google ecosystem, can provide users with more varied answers than those of its colleagues and of a more human nature. The result is closer to the colloquial tone that a hypothetical human operator would adopt to respond to the user. In fact, we see that the contents also contain a sort of considerations around the content of the question, as well as real calls or actions when the context requires it (of the kind of “If you are looking for [type of products], the [brand name] is right for you”). However, not even the Big G chatbot is free from errors, on the contrary.
Google itself reports that the product is in the beta phase and that the answers provided should not be automatically taken at face value.
We did some testing and came to the opinion that Gemini draws, at least in generic contexts, from American sources, translating the result into the language of the question. This means that the answer may not be relevant to the context (e.g. the procedure for renewing a passport could refer to the US one rather than the Italian one). Furthermore, information on Italian personalities could be incorrect, precisely because the sources in question are more precise when Italian than when foreign.
It remains, however, that ChatGPT and Google Gemini are both programs for generating content capable of speeding up the mass production of texts.
ChatGPT has many useful features for creating different types of content (texts, descriptions, tables, formulas, HTML code, etc.).
Google Gemini was created as a tool to speed up the collection of information as an alternative to Google Search, providing information that can help the user make considerations and discover new topics to explore further.
It is also capable of generating various creative text formats, such as poems, code, scripts, music tracks, emails, letters, etc., while ChatGPT is limited to generating conversational text.
Google Gemini and integration with the Google suite
One of the advantages of Google Gemini is its integration with the Google suite. This means that you can use Google Gemini in conjunction with other Google products, such as Google Docs, Google Sheets, and Google Slides. For example, you can use Google Bard to write and translate documents, create presentations, and write code.
Google G Suite is a set of office applications developed by Google. Applications include Gmail, Google Docs, Google Sheets, Google Slides, Google Calendar, Google Drive, Google Chat, Google Meet and Google Forms.
Google Gemini can be integrated with Google G Suite in a variety of ways. For example, you can use Google Gemini to:
- Write and translate documents in Google Docs.
- Create presentations in Google Slides.
- Write code in Google Sheets.
- Schedule events in Google Calendar.
- Manage files in Google Drive.
- Communicate with colleagues in Google Chat & Meet.
- Create surveys in Google Forms.
Google Gemini is a powerful and versatile tool that can be used to improve productivity and creativity. Google Gemini’s integration with Google G Suite makes it even easier to use Google Gemini to complete everyday tasks.
Here are some specific examples of how Google Gemini can be used with Google G Suite:
- If you’re writing a document in Google Docs, you can use Google Gemini to generate ideas, organise content, and write free-flowing, engaging text.
- If you’re creating a presentation in Google Slides, you can use Google Gemini to translate slides into other languages, write code for animations and transitions, and generate creative slide ideas.
- If you’re writing code in Google Sheets, you can use Google Gemini to find suggestions and fix errors.
- If you’re planning an event in Google Calendar, you can use Google Gemini to find places, find people to invite, and generate event ideas.
- If you’re managing files in Google Drive, you can use Google Gemini to find files, organise files, and generate tags for files.
- If you’re communicating with colleagues in Google Chat, you can use Google Gemini to translate conversations into other languages, write animation queues, and generate creative conversation ideas.
- If you’re creating surveys in Google Forms, you can use Google Gemini to find questions, generate responses, and analyse the results.
Which is better Google Gemini or Chatgpt?
In short, from our point of view, ChatGPT is an excellent platform for carrying out varied activities, while Google Gemini is a more creative and reliable consultant in finding information to respond to even very in-depth needs.
Google Gemini tends to offer a higher quality service, thanks to the enormous pool of updated data at its disposal: thanks to this we can create content bases of a more human and creative nature to be improved in turn. However, you must always check that the information reported is correct, to avoid making embarrassing mistakes, especially when it comes to very specific requests or requests linked to entities that are not very well codified.
However, both are still far from the information perfection you might expect. Avoid copying and pasting their texts without making any integration or customisation, this does not offer any added value to your web project.
